TEACHERS have now turned to social media to help pupils with their work while the school is closed. More than 20 of the school’s teachers are thought to have been using Twitter to send out work and past papers for revision.

The school’s website said: “Teachers are working at home to prepare online resources and the school’s IT team is setting up a virtual learning site and e-mail addresses for the staff.

“Hopefully, staff will receive training to upload their documents to learning forums.

“We are all desperate to get back in school.”

Parent Deborah John, from Wattsville, said: “If these teachers didn’t do this, where would the kids be? The teachers need to be patted on the back, they’re trying their best.”

Yes and how old do you have to be to register and use Facebook or Twitter? They obviously have not considered my daughter in Year 7. - You must be 13 years old! I can't understand why they have not got a learning platform already set up like most other schools linked to their website. And for staff not to already have email addresses - what century are they working in? Five days and still no plan of action. What on earth is going on? Time to look elsewhere for my daughter I think!

There should be plenty of locations these students who need to continue studies can use other than using Twitter..And JD1234 your daughter is first year Comp and it's the older students that need to continue the studies because of being in year 11...I am sure your daughter is enjoying her extra holiday and it is half term anyway coming up...

There are lots of secure learning platforms that the school could have used / should have used. Why haven't they?

My daughter might be in Year 7 but why should her education suffer because of 'inadequate' leadership?

Many parents have registered on behalf of their children. I think it's quite clear how hard CHS staff are working. Like many others I commend them.

I think GCSE's and most importantly A-Levels are a lot more important than little end of term tests.

According to some teachers I know, Moodle (I think I've got that right) is usually used for homework but the CHS lot are getting all the normal work on to it for the kids as well... Phew!

I taught in Cwmcarn from 2002 to 2004. one weekend in 2003 the "beware asbestos" stickers appeared all over the science labs. they've known for NINE years that there is asbestos in the ceiling and walls, but old Bill Beales didn't care for Mrs Kirkland and I (whose rooms were full of asbestos) so did nothing about it.

Good to see some positive comments on here at last instead of some of the critical ones. If we didn't have the internet/facebook/mo
odles/twitter etc how would things be done? People are quick to criticise the profession but never praise it!! Good on the teachers I say. While we're on the subject - I'm led to believe that the cleaners haven't been sacked-some are employed by the school (and are still employed) others are employed by an agency which the school uses and will (I'm guessing) have been told that they won't be required until the school reopens. You can't be sacked that quickly unless they've committed gross misconduct!!
