THE deadline has been extended for nominations in the South Wales Argus’ Gwent Schools Awards.

Exceptional teachers from the region will be celebrated when the awards are announced at a presentation evening on March 10 at the Coldra Court Hotel. All entries must be submitted by 5pm on January 20.

We are still looking for nominations for a range of award categories including, the Breaking Down Barriers Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Creativity and Innovation Award.

The John Frost School in Newport has been nominated in the Secondary School of the Year category. Head teacher Jon Wilson said: “We are really excited to be nominated. The school has done really well over last year in terms of results and rebranding, and the nomination is an endorsement of all of that.”

Teachers that work to open doors for students whatever their background, ethnicity or circumstances could be eligible for the South Wales Argus’ Breaking Down Barriers Award. Inspirational secondary school teachers and secondary schools can also be nominated in our award categories.

The first annual awards have been established in partnership with the University of South Wales (USW). We want to recognise the extraordinary hard work and dedication that school staff do every day.

If you know a student who is working towards becoming a teacher and has excelled in an teaching environment then they could be eligible for the South Wales Argus’ Student Teacher of the Year Award. Inspirational secondary school teachers and secondary schools can also be nominated in our award categories.

If your child attends or you know a school who deserves some recognition then nominate them for the prestigious School of the Year Award.
