Irresponsibility is partly to blame

IN RESPONSE to Terry Banfield’s reasons for world poverty (Argus, October 17), inadequate birth control is certainly one of the causes.

People who deliberately set out to have more children than they can afford are being just plain irresponsible. I would further add to his list. Third World dictators who syphon off nations’ wealth, fertile land given over to bio-fuel production and untold acres of farmland used for solar panels that are useless at night.

A major problemare the charities who thinkthey can solve the worlds problems but only succed in making them worse.

Most of the third world countries have limited resourses and a harsh climate so can only support a limited population. THe charties though cause huge increases in the population so when the next drought comes along we are back to tens of thousand dying

Charity, although well meaning, can also be a hindrance to disaster stricken countries. I'm not saying that people should not donate to charity but should be aware of where the money/goods goes and the effects it has.

Looking at newport yes charity does begin at home. and yes while our first minister and all his cronies enjoy the high life in cardiff bay (not different to robert mugabe in zimbabwe) the rest of wales stanfast cardiff (which is where all the grant money was spent and all the public sector jobs moved to) live in absolute poverty newport is now a slum town its now worse than port talbot all we need is children begging in the street to replicate a third world city.
