Vote in the man for the job

First published in Letters

OVER the last few weeks I have thought and sought advice about the post of Police and Crime Commissioner. I have decided to withdraw.

I originally stood because Falklands hero Simon Weston stood down for legal reasons. I have withdrawn from the race because I believe we now have an (excellent) independent candidate, former Det Chief Supt, Iain Johnston who has worked as a PC in Newport and has been stationed in and around Blackwood,Tredegar and Ebbw Vale. This gentleman would know exactly how policing works and how to deal with issues in Blaenau Gwent. I would urge people to vote on November 15 for Mr Johnston; he is the only credible candidate, and to keep politics out. Politicians may make the laws but often speak to the Attorney General for guidance, because very often they know very little about the law. Please read the leaflets when you receive them and make an informed choice.

Confusion? Simon Weston was standing for South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner not for Gwent so you could still have run as a candidate? You did not need to withdraw for Ian Johnston who is in Gwent. An excellent Independent is Christopher Wright.

Christopher Wright was only a sgt and after i watched his performance on the politics show i would never vote for him. He had no idea what he was talking about. I would call him crackers!

Chris Wright is well meaning but makes a lot of noise without making much sense. Ask anyone with knowledge of policing and you'll quickly find that his ideas lack the strategic vision necessary to operate at this level.
