OVER the last few weeks I have thought and sought advice about the post of Police and Crime Commissioner. I have decided to withdraw.
I originally stood because Falklands hero Simon Weston stood down for legal reasons. I have withdrawn from the race because I believe we now have an (excellent) independent candidate, former Det Chief Supt, Iain Johnston who has worked as a PC in Newport and has been stationed in and around Blackwood,Tredegar and Ebbw Vale. This gentleman would know exactly how policing works and how to deal with issues in Blaenau Gwent. I would urge people to vote on November 15 for Mr Johnston; he is the only credible candidate, and to keep politics out. Politicians may make the laws but often speak to the Attorney General for guidance, because very often they know very little about the law. Please read the leaflets when you receive them and make an informed choice.
