Keep fireworks at displays

First published in Letters

NEWPORT City and surrounding areas have many organised fireworks displays.

Surely there are enough to satisfy everyone who wishes to celebrate a person who, in effect, used terrorist tactics on a capital city? Pet owners and animal lovers, please protest against this dreadful and moronic festival that occurs every year. Ban single shop sales! The noise and pollution lasts a week either side of November 5 every year and also occurs at Christmas, New Year and birthdays. This letter is not just about the effects on domestic animals such as cats and dogs (who are terrified), but also consider birds, squirrels, foxes and hedgehogs, which are not protected by owners. Children should be made aware of how to respect animal life, not abuse it.

Mrs M Parry, Newport

You must be a really fun person to be around. One question I would like to know is do you eat meat? If so why are you so concerned about squirrels and hedgehogs. They may be nice with a chips and horseradish sauce.
