MY GRAN, Florence Garvey (nee Ryall), died when my mother, Dorothy Davies (nee Garvey), was three. Dorothy spent most of her life trying to find the grave of her mother, to no avail. I live in Spain and recently, while doing my family tree, decided to try to find the grave myself. With phone calls and e-mails from Spain and with the help of Charles Dare from St Woolos Cemetery, we found it. I came to Wales and and Charles showed us where the grave was.
It was a surprise to find my great-grandmother, Fanny Hands (nee Ryall) and my aunt were in the same plot. There is no headstone or indication of who is in the grave and I would like to put something to recognise their place of rest. I have many relatives in the Newport area and would ask if anyone else would like to contribute towards a memorial stone. If you would like to contact me, e-mail gillwalker@hotmail.com.
