Filthy sreets in Maesglas

TO the gent or lady responsible for street cleaning in Newport: I’ve never seen Maesglas streets looking so filthy.

We know you had to cut back on services, but to replace the road sweeper with a one-man mechanical sweeper is not working. The driver needs an assistant to sweep behind parked cars. He spends more time in the middle of the road and less in the gutters. To me it’s a waste of manpower and diesel. Oh, for the days of Mr Jones and Mr Joslin – Maesglas had the cleanest streets in Newport,

Nothing wrong with Mr.Nicolaas sending in his letter,but,he should be made aware that the majority of streets in Newport are now filthy.Some of the streets remind me of Mombasa absolutely filthy.The last time the manual roadsweep actually swept our street (which was a miracle) he just left it there in piles it was a complete waste of time.Some of the mechanical ones just move it further out into the road.The George St. Bridge pavements on the Corporation Rd. side have been covered in loose chippings for months ,the mechanical sweeper always leaves them behind few people have any pride in their work.Junction Rd. literally looks 3rd. World.Newport is FILTHY.

Along the Magor Road, virtually all the rubbish thrown from cars comes from the local McDonalds and yet every time this outfit applies for planning permission to open another outlet, the councils grant them.

Magor Road is over a mile and a half from the Coldra McDonald's. Blame the idiots that do the littering not the restaurant or the council!
