Dismayed by plaque story

AS A former pupil of Newport High School at Queens Hill I was dismayed at your report of the bronze Psalm 15 plaque being discarded on a skip by the Bettws School who inherited the name but not the history nor apparently the religious respect.

Vandalism and the person responsible should be ashamed.

I wonder how much more of the long history of the old school has been similarly thrown away by an uncaring staff? Thankfully the plaque has now found a home in St Marks church which had a long association with the old school.

This plaque was not actually found in a skip but could probably have been if Dave Woolven hadn't removed it. However many school cups many of which were silver were sold as scrap although some were kept hopefully including two chalices donated by the parents of a pupil killed in WW2 which although damaged because they as the others were dumped in a store at the Bettws high school. Fortunately I photographed these two chalices on their good sides and added the photo to the pupil concerned on the Newport's War Dead web site.
