It's cuts first ideas later

IT WAS disappointing to see only one Labour councillor at the impromptu Gwent Music concert outside the Civic Centre last week, when more than half of the Conservative councillors were present. It would also have helped if the cabinet members for education, leisure, or the council leader had been prepared to address the young musicians directly.

We do, however, see some movement from the administration, as they now say that they are aiming to make Gwent Music self-sufficient and to set up some sort of a trust fund for poor children. But surely these ideas need to be consulted upon before any cuts are made, not after? After only eight months in power, this administration seems to be sinking slowly beneath the waves without even an orchestra playing Nearer my God to Thee.

"More than half the Conservative Councillors" That would be six then would it? There are 37 Labour Cllrs and 10 Conservative. Any thoughts on why that is? Perhaps it is something to do with the massive cuts in local government funds you and you Lib Dems puppets have instigated nationally. None the less, no one should be ashamed of their views. Perhaps next time you write to the Argus you could say you are a Tory Cllr.

If only we could get this pasion allied to music to address other serious issues these cuts have presented, Brits have no idea really ! Closures of homes for the elderly, disabled adults left to fend for themselves, children in special needs left to their own devices unsupported, generations who have never seen a job or day's work, billions spent on empowering people to migrate here, who think we are mugs for doing it, etc. We never did have a sense of real priorities.

Are there not enough clowns on our streets already permanently tuned in to planet Apple, and oblivious to the real world ? Maybe they use these ipods to escape reality.
