Glad to see fines in place

First published in Letters

I READ with great interest your recent story (Thursday January 3rd) about XFOR officers working with Torfaen county borough council to issue fixed penalty notices to dog fouling and littering.

About time too! On several occasions over the past few years, I have been disgusted to see piles of litter throughout Cwmbran, and I have written to both Cwmbran shopping and Torfaen council requesting more bins are provided, and also I have reported and sent photographs of the litter to the council. So the news that XFOR will be issuing fixed penalties is very welcome. There is no excuse whatsoever for littering or allowing dogs to foul and not clean it up, maybe people will be more careful about keeping their towns and villages tidy if they know they’ll be penalised for not doing so.

I, for one, totally agree that people should NOT be letting their dogs dump in a public place and leave it there. Same goes for litter- people should really have more respect and use a bin.
BUT having a private company get a contract from already apparently "hard-up" councils is not the way either! You DO NOT need to converse or agree with these enforcers if they try to hit you with a fine. If you consent to be governed by these fascist councils then you will have lost your rights.
NO consent= No fine.
There is nothing that they can do about it.
Let's stop this totalitarian tiptoe before it becomes too common place.
Already we have plastic PCSOs trying to enforce laws and taking advantage of the public misconception that they are the law. They aren't the law. Only the coppers are the law and even when they try and enforce statutes and acts they must also have your consent.

How else can you address the fouling of our environment by these could not care less dog owners ? they are not going to be educated to do it, they are not going clean up their act, I think if you had to wander through piles of dog mess every day as many have to,at some point you would agree it needs serious tackling. OK it's fines, but hit people in the pocket they take notice, they won't otherwise.

Actually dog fouling is running second to cigarette being thrown away, I pass at least 11 houses every day on my way to get a paper, and outside these houses are piles of discarded cigarettes, just thrown out the front door onto the pavements. Another thing I see is disgusting antics from the 'school run' drivers, who use my road to park in (Illegally!), and they pull up, their kids get out, and are still grazing on junk food at 9am,and throw it over my wall, come 3pm school's out, the parents return armed and laden with MacDonald turds in bread, which their kids chew on and before driving off throw the containers over my wall,or just on the road, that is, after their parents have emptied the car ash trays on the road outside.

People are pigs really. Dogs have some excuse they are animals, people don't.
