This service is such a lifeline

First published in Letters

REGARDING the possibility of library closures, the council states that all residents will be within two miles of a library. Well and good. What about the disabled? With my heart disease there are days when I cannot walk from Park Square car park to Central library. On good days it is a struggle. The disabled spaces are often taken up by the non-disabled, with rarely a warden or policeman in sight.

I have been a keen user of the library service for 75 years. Stow Hill library is my lifeline because I can always park fairly close to it, and the ever-helpful staff will obtain books from other branches for me. Could the council please think again; even if it means reducing the number of days that it is open at the present?

THere is plenty of disable parking in Newport, Far more than at Stow hil. THere are frequent bus services to Newport and you can also get books posted to you.
