I HAVE no intention of engaging in an exchange with P.C. Neilsen, but I do not hesitate to point out how unjust and unrepresentative his letter on the Bible is.

One case in point is his criticism of Jesus who, he says, “tends to embrace the dregs and deviants of society such as the prostitute.” The Bible makes no mention of ‘deviants’. It does say that Jesus was criticised by the holier than thou brigade because he sought out publicans, sinners and prostitutes. That was to his glory. Those who were considered the dregs of society and beyond were the very ones that he deliberately sought out. He wished to save, restore, and regenerate them. He was sent into the world to save sinners and that was what he did with his whole heart.
