Will whole lot go to Spytty
3:02pm Monday 28th January 2013 in Letters
ANOTHER shop leaves the city centre.
The retailers blame the council, the council blames the recession. They are both to blame. When Llanwern, Whiteheads and other works were alive in Newport, Newport was awash with money. While the retailers and shopkeepers were counting their money, the city fathers under their noses were cutting the heart out of the city centre, by opening retail parks on the outskirts of the city. They ruined upstairs in the market and no one complained, like the city forefather who got rid of all the nice buildings and gave us boxes. Will there come a day when the market moves to Spytty and the Civic Centre to Cwmbran?

Whilst the High Strret carried on as if it were the 1950's the big stores identified what people wanted and provided it. It is the apathy of the High Street that lost them the businbess and they still fail to change.
The High streets laughingly claim they provide a beter service. I think they are deluded and out of touch with reality

I no longer have a choice. For the car poor, out of town is difficult since public transport is still aka 1905..... for some elderly it requires 4 bus trips to spytty and back, not a joke if you are carrying the weekly shopping or in this weather.
Out of town is where most people want to shop. Te High Street is not even open when most people finish work but Spytty Park is.

Please tells where these people live that require 3 buses to get there. Almost no one would require more than 2 buses
