How many got in touch

FURTHER to my previous letter, I wondered to what extent MPs took their constituents’ views into account before voting on the bill to redefine marriage.

So, I am asking all MPs in the Argus circulation area to reveal through these pages, exactly how many of your constituents asked you to support the bill, and how many urged you not to. We deserve to know. I’m sure the Editor would be more than willing to oblige in collating all responses. Many thanks in anticipation.

You deserve nothing of the kind. It was a free vote. Use the words as a guide.

You elected these people to act on your behalf because of their policies so now you have to live with their views. That's how it works.

They 'should' represent their constituents, but they dont. Maybe they think your opinions are stupid and that you have an over inflated sense of entitlement? I dont know.

Maybe Mr. Ashton should get it out of his system, and get that itch scratched. Just sayin'.

I find it disturbing MP's can have a 'conscience' but we cannot, and that is validated here. Especially when pundits suggest "The 'MAJORITY' are in favour..." Majority of what ? MP's ? 600 out of 69m people ? No wonder we are in a mess. London has become an self serving island on its own.

London will always be a self-serving Island on its own which is possibly part of the reason why Scotland are making overtures to become independent. Given time, I believe Wales will follow. After all, Wales is still a conqurered country. The Empire was a product of London and what long term benefits has that brought. Naturally, I discount emigrants, who, of course, are a massive boon to us.
At this moment we seem to be pinning out hopes on India but why, exactly, should India do us any favours. We certainly didn't do them many when we 'ruled' the place.
That seems to have been the over-riding policy of Britain in the days of the Empire - if it's there, conquer it.
Mind you, we were not on our own. In the past most developed countries like France, Spain, Italy and Germany did precisely the same.
As did Hanibal and Ghengis khan before that, who were considered to be barbarians.

Youn elect MPs on their manifestos. You will never agree with everything that they do but thats politics. If you think it is easy then stand for election and you will soon realise how many different ways people will try to pull you. This was a free vote.
