Irresponsible bench position

LIKE Mrs Jeffries of Queen’s Hill, I find Matthew Pimm’s letters lively and interesting. Not that I always agree with him; certainly not over the bench at the top of Upper Tennyson Road.

As I have explained, that bench and its predecessors have always faced the road. If it faced the other way people would be looking straight into the bedrooms of houses in Chaucer Road. I know people could turn round or stand up and look into the bedrooms but positioning the bench in that direction would be irresponsible. The other point I made to Matthew was that after people have climbed to the top of Upper Tennyson Road they are glad of a sit down whichever way the bench faces!
