Become a charity trustee

HAS any of your readers ever considered becoming a trustee of a charity?

Being a trustee can be a deeply fulfilling experience for you, the organisation you serve, and most importantly, for the organisation’s beneficiaries or cause. You can use the skills and knowledge you’ve gained over the years, learn new ones, meet new people and influence an organisation or cause that you care about. Age Cymru, the leading charity for all older people in Wales, is looking for people to join the board of trustees of our local partner charities. We want to recruit individuals with a range of skills including marketing, finance, management, human resources, the legal field and business. If you live in the Gwent area perhaps you would consider putting yourself forward as a trustee for Age Cymru Gwent? If so, please send your CV and a covering letter to Claire Morgan, Director of Corporate Services, Age Cymru, Ty John Pathy, 13/14 Neptune Court, Vanguard Way, Cardiff, CF24 5PJ. You can also email partnership@agecymru.org.uk, or you can contact me directly on 02920 431555 to discuss these opportunities in more detail.

Charity must be in a dire state to ask total strangers to stand as trustees. Mostly they ask notaries, or z-celebs etc to act as a 'face' mainly for publicity purposes. Mostly charities reject the 'man in the street' because they have no pulling power. Maybe it means those who do not give to charities might give more to people who really want to help... but I doubt it, without a face, they are fickle.
