Council tax rise sickening

CONGRATULATIONS to Newport for the recent announcement of a three per cent rise in council tax.

Are you serious? Or maybe you have secret plans to make the city centre a thriving shopping area safe from beggars at the ATMs or the puke- and chewing gum-stained pavements, or maybe you are going to invest in helping the aged or sick who are worrying whether they should stay warm or eat as they cannot afford both, perhaps somewhere for the youth to hang out because you are shutting all the community centres, or maybe a bobby on the beat instead of the odd patrol car. My mind goes back to the protests over the poll tax, have people forgotten? With budgets stretched to their maximum how are people going to get by? Or are you looking forward to receiving monies from fines and court appearances due to non-payment?

I think you'll find that the WAG pocketted the grant of £38,895,000 that was given to them by Westminster and which was supposed to zero out the council tax rises. With Labour in power in Cardiff Bay, did you expect anything else?

Police matters are noting to do with Newport Council. The average increase ACTUALLY paid by each resident will be under 5p a day. This is not counting the huge percentage of the elderly you refer to who do not pay council tax but get council tax benefit.

5p a day! Sickining!

Things are hard, but they are not that hard.
