Shop closures a big concern

WALES is losing its independent shops faster than anywhere else in the UK. The number of independent traders on Welsh high streets fell by 33 per cent in 2012, say researchers the local data company. The research found some of the fall too on many out-of-town developments. During the last Welsh Assembly all parties signed up to do all they could to save our local high streets. Any new development could see more shops closing in Blackwood.

Too true, Councils have long been bagging big receipts from supermarkets and big retailers for prime out of town locations.

Couple this with bus lanes, parking restrictions, pedestrianized zones, one way streets and over zealous traffic wardens and surprise surprise, no-one visits the high street. They are just reaping what they have sown.
