Centenary is worth marking

SHAUN McGuire (Letters February 25) is absolutely right in drawing attention to the need to commemorate the centenary of the Great War. His idea of restoring the memorial to the 1st Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment, in Belle Vue Park is an excellent one. The Gwent Branch of the Western Front Association, a national organisation dedicated to the study of the First World War, is already in discussion with a number of organisations in planning several activities, including a travelling exhibition and a trip to the 1st Mons memorial at Ypres on May 8, 2015, the centenary of the battle of Frezenberg Ridge.

We would be happy to hear from anybody who would like to work with us in organising centenary activities.
