Prestigious guest at baths
4:02pm Monday 11th March 2013 in Letters
I REFER to the picture challenge which appeared on this page on February 22. I was delighted to read in your March 4 edition that a very long-standing friend of mine, Mr Graham James, was able to answer almost all the details posed by the picture.
It was indeed the official opening of Pontllanfraith Baths on May 23, 1938. The only point he failed on was the guest of honour.
If my memory serves me correctly, it was Colonel (or was it Captain?) Crawshay, a direct descendant of the 18th century ironmaster and erstwhile occupier of Cyfarthfa Castle in Merthyr.
So, well done Graham.
