Why this snub by our leaders

THE snub towards serving men and women by this government continues. I served in Thailand building an airstrip for what, as far as we were concerned, were strikes on Vietnam, as we were not too far away and the strip was just long enough for American strike force planes at the time, namely the Phantom.

This was a Commonwealth exercise so a medal was raised by the Australian and New Zealand governments. Our illustrious government refuses to recognise our part in it. Also it has taken until recently for it to allow people who served in Malaya during that conflict the right to wear the medal issued by the Malay government. It brings me to the big question, WHY!!

People serving in the merchant navy have only recently been recognised as deserving a medal. I can understand that they should deserve one since the losses to U-boats during the second world war were very high. My grandfather spent the entire war in India as an airframe fitter fixing bombers. He wasn't entitled to a medal because he was in a neutral country at the time. I can see why.

You built an airstrip in Thailand. Well done, very brave of you. Must have been hell what with the lack of direct combat.
