GIVEN the decision by Labour-controlled Blaenau Gwent Council to ignore the wishes of the Save Our Cinema protesters, I can only agree with Cllr Hopkin’s comment that the councillors have been “dogmatic” and “dictatorial”.

I daresay we can certainly also add undemocratic! Regarding direct democracy, Rob Hatherall (letters March 7) asks whether my “power from-the-base-not-top theorem is worth a go”? Well, it’s not my theorem but is based on anarcho-syndicalist principles and information on how this social/economic system has worked (eg Spain 1936) and will work in the future can be found at: www.anarchistfaq.org

Well said Terry, (though I can't find the letter to which you're referring). I think the AFAQ is a little 'hardcore' for most people, (I speak from knowledge here, I own a hardcopy). Plus, I don't think it's particularly well written.

If people want more of an idea about anarcho-syndicalism, I would point them in the direction of this interview by the venerable, and (to me at least), incredibly inspirational, Noam Chomsky. A transcript of the interview may be found here:
