Time to rebel for city's sake

HAVING read the front-page story in the Argus on Tuesday, March 12, “HOW DO WE STOP THIS?” the answer is really simple, by- pass Newport altogether and let all but residential and essential traffic carry on down the M4 corridor to the proper cities called Cardiff and Swansea.

Just look at the SDR lanes on the roundabouts, what a joke they are! The traffic- lights at Tredegar Park are on all day, causing unnecessary mayhem, WHY? And why on earth are they still on in the late evening and early hours? I really think that Newport City Council officers of all parties over the years have had a suicidal attitude to the state of the town/city, there is nothing special in the retail or entertainment industry in Newport, unlike Cardiff, Newport is a haven for boozers and fighters at night so why would anyone with an ounce of decency spend a night there?

People of Newport, wake up and rebel, where is the Chartist in you? Give your councillors a bloody nose at the next elections and keep on giving them stick until they do what they are paid for.

There is one word that sums up this letter: "Ignorance". Yet again we have an anti-Newport letter laden with insults and wilful blindness.

Have you ever been to Cardiff or Swansea on a Friday/Saturday night? You will see more than your fair share of drunken pugilism in those "real cities" too.

What we need to stand up to is people who constantly talk us down. Shame on you.

Mr Vaughan I know you have a lot to say in these letter columns, but to call me ignorant is no defence regarding my observations of the running of the City of Newport and not the people who live there. In fact I have been to all the cities mentioned during the day and nightime both in my work capacity and for some lesiurely entertainment and yes you are correct about the drunkeness in all three Cities but I am not so sure you can call it pugilism, there is no officials i'm aware of watching the fights. I have family in Newport so it is not an attack on the residents but the officials who seem oblivious to the needs of the people of Newport both residential and business, including yourself, unless of course you have a political interest within the council? And when you mention the words "talk us down" what does that mean? and how do you propose to stand up to the majority of Newports population who quite frankly agree with me! No, shame on you for not challenging the very people who squander your taxes.
