Ship could be big asset

IT’S very easy to criticise, and I can be very critical of the way our council runs Newport, but credit where credit is due, Cllr Bright’s work with the Welsh Assembly and the Task Force for Newport is a step forward. Let’s hope that it is action and not hot air that emanates out of Cardiff Bay. And with that step forward, Newport council appear to have some vision beyond the end of its nose.

Although a museum facility for the Newport Ship looks unlikely in the near future, they are not going to pour concrete over the timbers – as they once wanted to do.

The ship is older than the Mary Rose, with links to Warwick the King-maker and maybe Richard III. It has generated international interest and if handled properly, can be used as the vehicle to kick-start Newport as a place to want to visit, thus indirectly helping our traders. Don’t write the ship off.

Agree with the sentiments about the ship. However the task force is a smokescreen - a good excuse to delay matters for another 6 months. They have the information about the state of the city centre. There is a strategy in place for the city centre with the creation of separate quarters. A case of JDI - just do it.

very deluded and extremely nieve letter all the grant money that Wales now receives goes straight down the WAG Cardiff has received billions in grants and HUGE public sector job creation schemes the WAG alone employs 5000 . One thing I guarantee you Richard is Newport will be in the same state that its in in 5 years time . Labour know how ever they treat newport people they will vote labour the place is on its absolute knees I have wrote to my MP and AM both replied that they thought a good job had been down in Newport!!
