A COUPLE who got married four days after the Queen’s coronation are celebrating 60 years together.

Diamond couple Margaret and Gerard Bolton tied the knot on Saturday, June 6 1953 at St Michael and St John’s Church in Clitheroe, and will celebrate their special anniversary this weekend.

Margaret, 81, described her husband as her ‘best friend’ and said: “It’s a great achievement and we are both really proud.

“We would never separate and we do everything together.

“We are both looking forward to spending the day with our family and we know it will be a day to remember.”

The couple, who live in Langho, were introduced by friends in 1951 at a pub after enjoying a night out dancing.

They will be celebrating with their four sons, John, 59, Andrew, 47, and Allan and James, 46.

Margaret, who was born in Clitheroe, worked as a weaver when she met Gerard, who was working at Wade Platt Farm, Langho.

They ran The Langho Chippy before retirement after Gerard, 82, worked as a driving instructor for 19 years.

Margaret said: “It will be nice to go out for a meal with everyone and I hope we have many more years with each other.

“We are very close and he has been a fantastic companion all these years.”
