A COUPLE who celebrated 60 years of marriage met in an Oxford dancehall and have been dancing ever since.

Ron and Betty Eadle, 83 and 80, marked their anniversary by watching the musical Mamma Mia in London last night.

The couple were brought up in Oxford, with Mrs Eadle – then Miss Mott – from East Oxford and Mr Eadle from Wolvercote.

After leaving school at 14, Mrs Eadle became a receptionist at stationary firm Hunt and Broadhurst in Botley Road and Mr Eadle completed two years National Service with 50th Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment.

They met when Mrs Eadle was 17 and her husband was 20 at the dancehall Forum in High Street, Oxford.

Mrs Eadle said: “We love jiving, but we could dance to anything.”

They married at St Mary and St John Church in Cowley Road on June 20, 1953.

The couple moved into the home they still live in, in Normandy Crescent, four years later and Mr Eadle began a 32-year career at Pressed Steel in Cowley. After leaving the company at 55 he became a self-employed painter and decorator and retired at 65.

Mrs Eadle said: “We never ever went to bed on an argument. In 60 years you do have them but we have never gone to bed without kissing and making up.”

They have three children – Vivien, 58, Tina, 56, and Lynn, 47 – six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
