RECENTLY I noticed a slow-moving Newport bus with hazard lights flashing in High Street.
Obviously, the sensible bus driver and Newport Bus are concerned about safety in this pedestrianised zone.
Newport shoppers and the indoor market traders are pleased to see buses in High Street again, but surely the traffic speed limit should be reduced from 20mph to 5mph among other safety measures needed.
The 20mph speed limit on our residential streets is regularly exceeded by too many irresponsible motorists, so how can Newport City Council possibly justify 20mph maximum speed in our pedestrianised city centre streets?
