THE Transporter Bridge has great scrap value!
I am old enough to remember the demolition of the wonderful Lyceum Theatre, the town hall and old library. Oh, how the people of Newport regretted the trendy planners’ decisions then!
Newport has never looked the same since.
How can Newport council disregard the feelings of the majority of people who quite liked the Chartist mosaic? Besides the John Frost Square clock (too expensive to repair) the mosaic was the only evidence in the town centre of something a bit different from other cities.
If the mosaic had been assembled by Banksy, I am sure it could have been removed overnight in one piece by one man holding a torch and driving a flatbed truck.
Sorry, Newport council, you have got it very wrong again and I don’t think we have any confidence in your leadership.
What next? The Transporter Bridge, sold off for scrap? I wouldn’t be surprised!
