I HAVE written to AMs and the Welsh health minister concerning the amount of Morning-after Pills (MAPs) being distributed at Welsh chemists. Our interest being that this Pill can act as an abortifacient if fertilisation has taken place.
Official figures provided indicate a total of 33,114 in the year 2011-2012, and 36,371 in the year 2012-2013. It is most interesting that underage children 13-15 years of age provided with 1,397 MAPs in 2011-2012 and 1,305 in 2012-2013. Even more interesting was a note saying “Total includes provision of EHC (this is the Morning-after Pill (MAP) where age was not specified.”.
Parents, whether or not they support the administration of the Pill to their children, surely must be concerned that while their child cannot be given an aspirin at school without their consent, can be given this MAP without their knowledge.
