A kind man

I REFER to David Davies’ comments last week and fail to see what was so alarming. My late father left the depression of Merthyr Tydfil in the 1930s and went to London to work at the age of 14! He gained work there and later returned to Cwmbran where he lived and worked until his retirement.
I personally spent a career in local government. Back in 2006 one of my elderly clients asked about the possibility of a ramp outside her home. Her elderly husband was in a care home and was unable to visit her at home as ‘elf and safety’ would not allow the care workers to pick his wheel chair up a few steps to his home. I made a referral for the ramp which social services approved; however, grants would not pay for it.
I was not happy with this decision and contacted Mr Davies, who gave his help. The ramp was installed and the disabled gentleman was able to visit his wife and home every day for the last six months of his life. As Mr Davies said, he is free to say what he likes and so am I. Although not believing in all conservative policies, Mr Davies is a very kind man, irrespective if you agree with him or not.
Mrs L Aherne Cwmbran
