Too soon to end

DISTORTING the Facts The Argus has tried to close the sorry saga of the Chartist Mural down much too soon. Having looked at the Mann Williams outline cost plan, it clearly states that the £625k was to protect, conserve, relocate and repair the Mural. Public Procurement Law requires at least 3 tenders for this type of contract. Where are they?
Furthermore, Newport City Council have had years to move the mural, so strategic director Sheila Davies, is distorting the facts in a big way when she says there was no time left in which to do the job properly.
Added to that is the online public consultation for a replacement mural which laughably does not give the choice of a mosaic, nor does the suggestion box work.
Newport has been dogged by a mixture of poor decision making, petty party politics, a total lack of transparency and callous disregard for the opinions of the people who live there.
The people of Newport can take their democracy back.
The council elections are in 2017 and anyone can stand of any political persuasion and none.
The debacle of the mural could, and should, inject fresh blood into this sad city.
