WHILE I appreciate Rob Hatherall’s support for bringing all the utilities into public ownership I cannot understand why all the other means of production, distribution and wealth should be exempt because the fact is capitalist exploitation through wage-slavery covers the whole economy. There is no “we” or “our” economy because society is divided by such class exploitation.
Exploitation occurs when capitalists steal the surplus value created by workers, which is the difference between the value produced and the wages received. A detailed explanation can be found in a wonderful pamphlet by Noam Chomsky, entitled Notes On Anarchism.
So why cling to an undemocratic, exploitative, class-based economic system which creates mass poverty for the benefit of a rich corporate global elite? It doesn’t make any sense – unless people are happy being subjugated and oppressed?
