DEAR Michael Thank you for taking the time to write about the Chartist mural, but don’t be too hard on the council, they just have no imagination. You on the other hand, have lived the Tinsel Town dream. Please show them the way. I call upon you to use all of your contacts and pitch Newport for the Hollywood treatment with strap lines like, ‘birthplace of democracy’, ‘where one man one vote began’. You know ‘no taxation without representation’ was a mimic of the Chartist movement.
Fire up the movie machine and get it to glamorise the Chartists make Robin Hood and his merry men look like boy scouts. The faster and looser they play with the historical facts the better. A vigorous academic controversy will only create even more interest. Michael you are an actor. Please act.
