Get act together

I SUSPECT the consulting civil and structural engineers (Mann Williams) did not even bother to study the drawings and plans re the construction of the Chartist murals – that is, the manner in which the mural was attached to the wall. If they had, would they have still have given the estimated cost of removing and relocating the mural as £625,981 + VAT.
Is Newport City Council employing suitably qualified personnel (such as surveyors) to examine and scrutinise the city’s civil engineering problems? Then, if Newport City Council does employ such personnel, did they consult them on the issue of the murals? If, indeed, they did consult such personnel, what were the conclusions and advice given?
In my opinion, the excuse given by Newport City Council’s director of strategy seems somewhat lame. Along with many other folk, I am of the opinion that the job of removing and relocating the mural could have been done for less than £100,000.
If Newport really wants to live up to its city status, it needs to get its act together. It should, in future, for example, consider consulting with the experts from the University of South Wales.
