I READ with some interest Terry Banfield’s response in (Letters, December 4) to Mike Gough’s and Stu Vigus’ call for him to stand at the Croesyceiliog by-election.
Well Terry, while I do support some of your comments, I tend to agree with Mike and Stu that you should stand for election.
If you really want to have a political influence for The Anarchist Federation and your views then there are only two ways to do so.
Firstly, you would have to overthrow the existing political order by usurping their power through armed rebellion or, secondly, get yourself elected along with other Anarchists to bring about influence and change.
I do not suppose that you have the military might to carry out the former, so standing in the election may give you a Trojan horse’s chance of obtaining your goal.
You cannot wave a magic wand and hope for change, you have to do something about it. If, however, you would just like to air your views without any hope of the system changing, then I look forward to reading more of your letters.
