I HAVE never met Councillor Ray Davies but I know that he wears a red beret. It’s good to see by his letter in this paper that he has done a lot for anti-apartheid, he even sang on top of Caerphilly mountain. Mandela was a good, forgiving man but he died before he could lead his people out of shanty-town poverty. I hope Ray, your singing on the mountain wasn’t in vain.
Listening to the black South Africans on Dimbleby’s Question Time, I think they will be looking towards the clenched fist of Winnie Mandela and Robert Mugabe. I hope I’m wrong, for the white South Africans sake.
