WHAT a fantastic opportunity Carwyn Jones, First Minister, missed when he visited Uganda on an AIDS mission.

Gay people in Uganda live in fear of the draconian laws made by the country’s violently homophobic leaders.

Mr Jones spoke quietly in the ear of the Ugandan government about the gay issue.

Just as Mrs Thatcher did when she visited Chile and whispered in the ear of one of the most vicious dictators, General Pinochet, who murdered countless thousands of his own people.

Just as she whispered to South Africa’s President Botha during the apartheid period, who imprisoned and persecuted millions of black South Africans because they were black.

Because our leaders have failed to speak out openly against politically inspired homophobia in Uganda, they have given the green light to oppression everywhere.
