Streets like tips

First published in Letters

I HAVE always recycled, and supported it, but I really think it’s getting out of hand having to accommodate six recycling containers at least; it confuses the elderly and is difficult for the disabled among us!

And if you don’t happen to have a side entrance or front to your property and have a terraced house they have to be situated straight on the streets!

Residential areas of Newport are starting to look like rubbish tips with all these overflowing bins, it’s not a good look, I’m sure the council will have to rethink their recycling methods soon before we are inundated with more containers. I’m sure I’m not the only Newport resident to notice this decline in our city! Mrs. J Mitchell Exeter Rd Newport

I sympathise, I really do, but firstly it's not just Newport Council that are using the different recycling receptacles - it's all councils. Secondly, they have to in order to meet strict recycling quotas set by the Welsh Assembly. Thirdly, God forbid we sort the rubbish that we put out for collection, the rubbish that we create! And finally, aren't we losing sight of the reason why we have all of these boxes/bins/bags, and why the WAG are enforcing these recycling quotas? For generations we have taken this planet fore granted - I for one am more than happy to try to do my bit, even if it is too late and means I out out 4 bins instead of 1.

THat though is the most inefficient and poorest way of recycling
