No boom is seen

First published in Letters

WE ARE being told by Mr Cameron that our country is booming and we are a very rich country.

Please could someone tell him that many people in this country would starve if it was not for food banks?

Many of these are “workers”.

But they are so low paid and some have nil hours’ contracts or part time employment.

They cannot pay for gas or electric to keep warm in winter.

They will never change the zero hours contracts as it basically means that you have a job so the unemployment figures look better. As far as I'm aware you can still claim jsa if your on zero hours.

The food banks have become more popular because they have cut down on the social fund and changed the crisis loans. So rather than people being able to get short term loans from the social fund they have to resort to the food banks instead. Which I don't agree with as it must be soul destroying to have to resort to going to a food bank as it must feel like you live in a 3rd world.

Boom time for employers, cheap labour, plenty of support for their exploitation of migrants and people born here who they can play at will. No wonder they play the race card when we complain there are too **** many of them coming here, all power to the debate at the Assembly to ask for exemptions to unrestricted migrants to Wales too, England lets them all in, then sends them on here along with convicted criminals, we are just a dumping ground for bad Westminster government.

It wasn't the assembly debating immigration but Plaid. And they want more of them here not less. And they think they should be encouraged to learn Welsh.Even raised the idea of incentivising them not to live in England but here instead. Gotta hand it to Plaid - completely bl**dy barking.

The Tory's are constantly trying to tell the people that there is absolutely no problems in this country (unless you are unemployed or disabled then you deserve no help or support! ) but the people are not stupid and can see and experience for themselves how hard life is for the poorly paid etc. There are none so blind as those who cannot see Mr Cameron. Maybe you should take a trip to specsavers and have a better look at what is happening to the people you are supposed to be helping.

Can you post a link to where 'the Tories are trying to say there's absolutely no problem'? I saw a headline on the weekend where Osbourne said the recovery is by no means secure. The most I've seen anyone say is that the economic indicators are more positive than when Labour left office. Even Kevin Maguire grudgingly admitted that.

I didn't say there was a link, I said they keep trying to tell us. They have done this by saying the only reason for rising food bank numbers is because there's more of them and that actually, there has been no rise in the number of people in poverty. Lies. Why don't they try and get the need for food banks reduced instead of denying the need for their existence. They also keep telling us that unemployment is going down but they fail to tell us how many of these jobs are part time or zero hours (doctoring figures?) . They also tell us that the disabled are not being penalised when there is countless evidence to show that they are (I'll post that link if you want). They tell us that the bedroom tax is not contributing to rent arrears or costing more than it actually saves, whilst destroying the very thin line of quality of life that these people have to walk along. Do you want any more examples of the propoganda this government is feeding us LMA because I can provide them if you want. In fact, I probably will anyway.

Politicians of all colours spin things. I'm not denying it. But the pretence that there was ever going to be a quick way out of the dire mess this country was in without cutting back spending was always a non-starter. You can't tax your way out of it either. Socialist France are trying that one and doing way worse than us.

you can balance your taxes and cuts though.

this government seem to be placing most of the strain on the poorest in our society. bankers bonuses going up, introduction of "allowances" instead of bonuses, no mansion tax, no closing the loopholes in tax laws, highest rate of income tax cut - with no denial it will be cut further.

Tax avoidance is an issue for all western economies caused in part by the complexities they themselves created. As for a 'mansion tax', what a stupid unworkable idea that is. Enough tax is collected already, it's how it's used (and how much of it) that's the issue.
