WHY has Torfaen gone back to the war years? When I was growing up in the 40s we had a bucket under the sink with a lid in which we put all our food waste, peelings, etc.

This was the pig swill and once a week a horse and cart came up the street and emptied all the buckets. In those days we could not afford to throw food out like they do today! When my friend from Cwmbran told me that this is what now happens in Torfaen (except for the horse and cart) I was appalled. Thank goodness I live in Newport where we have bio-degradable bags and a kitchen caddy.

Torfaen, we are now in the 21st century!
