All best to Harry

I HAVE just read that Councillor Harry Andrews is standing down as the leader of Caerphilly Borough Council at its AGM on the 8th May.

I have known Harry for over 30 years working with him in Gelligaer District Council, Rhymney Valley Council and Caerphilly County Borough Council.

It was my privilege and pleasure to have served under his leadership as a cabinet member from 2004-2008 and as his deputy from 2006-2008. I am pleased that he will be staying on as a member for Gilfach, a community he has served for so many years.

I would like to wish Harry and his wife Doreen the very best for the future.

A very nice tribute Gwyn. As for most other people, who've not worked with him but had to suffer his leadership, I fail to see how congratulations would be in order while he deserts his position while the authority are under investigation on several points by the Wales Audit Office and Crown Prosecution Services. If you're remaining a councillor then remain as leader, show some steel for goodness sake.

Farewell to a person who have enjoyed a good councillors and leaders allowance. A good private and public pension and a loyal freemason and Labour party member. He was only a councillor for the good of the people and not the money.
