I AM a resident living on the East side of Newport. And On many occasions I notice traffic jams near the Cenotaph in Clarence Place during peak times.
I note that there are three main roads, Caerleon Road, Chepstow Road and Corporation Road that during peak times run west wards into a single lane approaching Newport Bridge. Cars remain at a standstill as they’re not permitted to filter into the bus lane, which is generally only used by a very small number of buses and taxis.
Is there a need for these extremely short distance bus lanes?
I believe by freeing the short distance bus lane on Clarence Place to allow the three main roads to filter into two lanes not one will allow not only the buses and taxis but all other traffic will be able to circulate efficiently during peak time.
