A COUPLE of weeks ago you kindly published a letter I sent to you with the hope that you might be able to help me to contact the descendants of my great grandfather, members of the Grainger family, who had lived throughout the 20th century in Cardiff.

Esther Grainger was a great aunt of mine, who I now know was a talented Welsh artist and embroideress.

It appears not a single member of the Grainger family now lives in South Wales, but one of your eagle-eyed readers recognised the name and contacted a member of the family in Scotland to tell him of my letter.

He immediately contacted me (he is a second cousin of mine) and he has put me in touch with a number of other second cousins.

We are now exchanging information and memorabilia and I would like to thank your newspaper for making this possible.

I remember, as a very small child in the 1940s and 1950s, my grandfather was a regular reader of your newspaper and this memory led to me composing my original letter. Thank you for sparking those memories and for your help.
