Don't criticise

First published in Letters

WHEN Councillor John Hopkins was leader of Blaenau Gwent Council he presided over a failure in social services.

He saw his deputy leader, Cllr Nigel Daniels, suspended by the Ombudsman for intimidating staff.

As a cabinet member with the independent council in 2011, education was taken into special measures.

Perhaps though he is best remembered as a high taxing council leader.

I was therefore disappointed with the Argus article (August 19) criticising my leadership at a time when it is recognised Blaenau Gwent is making improvements in financial management, education and safeguarding.

People in glass houses really should refrain from calling the kettle black even if the grapes are a little sour to their taste.

Hedley McCarthy Leader, Blaenau Gwent CBC

Maybe if the councillor concentrated on trying to do the best for the people of Blaenau Gwent instead of replying to news articles to save face maybe the borough wouldn't be in the state it is.. 3 weekly collections, people being made redundant right , left and centre, council taxes rising for services. CCTV shipped to Newport without proper investigation into wether it would work or not, all adds up to an inept council who seem to care more about what's written about them than actually doing anything worthwhile for the borough. Pathetic

COUNCILLOR Hopkins ? What about John Mason with the Labour party throwing him out for serious misdemeanours, as an independent made
leader, the people of Nantyglo need to bow their heads in shame for
that disaster .

Twenty-eight in disagreement of my last post, I was unaware that Nantyglo
residents were now so affluent that they did not care how their money was spent. Entirely different in my childhood in the borough when I and my sister were picking coal off slag heaps so we could have a fire while my father was fighting German's in various war theatre's .
