THE UK Independence Party recently attended the Bedwellty Agricultural Show, which took place on 16th August.

We have been happy to support this special “valleys” event, with one exception, for more than eight years.

What surprises us is that none of the other political parties chose to attend, and indeed have not done so for a number of years.

This is quite reprehensible, given the fact that both Labour and Plaid Cymru have political representatives in Caerphilly Council, the Welsh Assembly, and in the case of Labour, a Westminster MP. We all know that agricultural shows are faced with ever increasing costs due to health and safety issues etc.

One would have thought these political parties would have felt it incumbent upon them to support the show and have stands at this event.

We would hope the good people of the Caerphilly and Islwyn Borough will reflect on this when they cast their votes next May.
