I HAVE the greatest sympathy for Councillor Mike Harris who allegedly used the term Muzzy on a social networking site. Harassed and persecuted by fools, who spend their small-minded lives hanging on every word uttered by public figures, in wait for the opportunity to wield their sad Euro Looney hatchets in the pursuit of mindless political correctness.
Muzzy, an abbreviation of the word Muslim, which I am one hundred percent sure would not offend any clear thinking Muslim anywhere in the UK. I wonder if the same sad group of people would rise in fury at the phrase God Squad, or Coffin Dodgers or any of the multitude of phrases and work place slang used every single day by millions of people in the work place and at home.
This is Britain where styled humour is endemic, it is harmless, it is not derogatory or offensive in any way. This is the country in which we laugh at ourselves.
So my advice to those, humourless devotees of Johnny Onion’s little red book of non-offensive wit and repartee. Clear off back to Brussels and take your sad, boring dictate with you.
