I NOTICED that the First Minister’s Cabinet reshuffle involved a streamlining of his team and a cut in the number of Cabinet members. Contrast that with the attitude of Labour-run Caerphilly County Borough Council, which on becoming the administration actually increased the number of members of its Cabinet from nine to 10.
Since then the out-of-touch Labour leaders have buried their heads in the sand, refusing Plaid Cymru’s reasonable appeals to reduce the numbers at a time of major cuts in services. It seems they expect the public of the county borough to accept the pain of cuts in services in the years to come but are not prepared to take their share.
Perhaps it is time they rethought their attitude and followed the lead of the First Minister and, indeed, their Labour colleagues in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
But I’m not holding my breath.
Colin Mann, Plaid Cymru group leader, Caerphilly County Borough Council
