ON behalf of the trustees and myself, may I sincerely thank all those who attended our Service of Peace and Conciliation in Bettws on Thursday September 11, remembering the 9/11 tragedy. The Bettws in Bloom charity have held this annual service since 2002.

We wish to thank our guests the mayor, the Lord Lieutenant of Gwent Simon Boyle, our vice-president William Graham, Lieutenant Colonel RD Whiting of the Royal Artillery and his adjutant, and Inspector Nick Hayes of the Bettws Gwent Constabulary for their attendance.

Sincerest thanks also go to the head teacher and staff of Monnow Primary, Millbrook and Newport High School and Ysgol Gymraeg Ifor Hael together with Phil Taylor and comrades of the Royal Welsh and bugler Dave Jones, who played the hlast post. Our own Bettws in Bloom choir took part for the first time. thanks to all ex-servicemen, the local community and all services who took part in this very poignant event. The service was led by Canon Hewy Davies, the chaplain of the Bloom officiated and . At this time of extreme significance, we remembered and gave thanks to our forebears who fought in the Great War. We are proud of Bettws and proud of our improving city.
