Travelling along the A48 from Newport to Cardiff approaching Cardiff Gate, on the hill on the right is a white church with a bell tower.

It is the beautiful St Edeyrn’s Church, a Grade II* listed building steeped in history dating back to the 11th Century.

The main entrance to the church is through the porch which dates from the second major phase of restoration in 1500.

This takes you to the south door of the church. As you enter the church building proper, the first thing you see is the prominent medieval stone font which is still used for baptisms.

Once inside the church, there are several church windows which all have interesting features. Immediately to the left of the east window is a modern statue just over three feet tall representing St Edeyrn.

Dominating the north east corner of the nave is the Victorian octagonal stone pulpit. For those interested, there are records of births, marriages and deaths going back many years. St Edeyrn’s Church has a service every Sunday at 9.30am, but for anyone interested in historic buildings, there is an open day on Saturday 27th September between 11am and 4pm. Visitors will be welcome to enjoy the many interesting and historical features of this beautiful church.
